Artisan Made in Taormina

To return to a place you thought you knew all along and find new details you had been missing before is like seeing a person you thought you once knew only to discover new beautiful dimensions of their essence – a beautiful life epiphany.  I have visited Taormina time and time again my entire life.  I was lucky to be born only an hour or so away from it – but this splendid Sicilian vanguard village is an incredible hub of magic, serenity, inspiration.  No wonder so many laureate poets, writers, artists rested and created here throughout time.  If you are looking for peculiar, genuine, one-of-a-kind Sicilian artisan gifts for yourself or your loved ones, Taormina will present you with a number of original designs in ceramics, terracotta, jewelry, marzapane pastries, wines, accessories.  And if style says something about people – than it is here that you will notice the eye for beauty, attention, details that Sicilians have mastered.  After a walk along Corso Umberto – the main alley – I always venture out in the discovery of off the beaten path vicoli, they always surprise me, and always manage to look differently.  I end my walk at Villa Comunale, with a funny looking villa in the heart of it, as you walk you think you may be dreaming, the beauty all around is overwhelming.  Then I pause for a moment, look down at another breathtaking sight:  Isola Bella, once a private island, now owned by Regione Sicilia and reflect with gratitude to have been born on such a beautiful island, whose charisma and essence always travel within me.  Mine is nothing but a lifelong love story, a passionate encounter that is ongoing, un sentimento profondo that just like love either embraces you fully and at once and perpetuates and deepens over time or nothing at all.    On August 10, Italians celebrate “La Notte di San Lorenzo”  it is a special time when falling stars fill the skies – make a wish (or two) and believe in it fully.  May all your wishes come true…..

More soon from South – Eastern Sicily in the upcoming days.   A presto, Francesca
